The beautiful criss cross embroidery done over the local staple of the Himalayan region is known as Iraghi Embroidery. The Hunza hats are one of its kind and is a centuries old craft which has been preserved and intact for as long as it came into existence.
These hats are beautifully decorated with floral designs and over that an ornament is attached which is called a mathapatti.
Women usually wear matha patti over their forehead with the hat but on occasions like wedding and annual festivals, they wear it over the cap which turns the caps into crowns.
The local women take pride in this hat, as they consider it as a sign of empowerment and unity in the community.
